Marine Industry on the agenda at Manufacturing Summit
Published on 16/2/2012
BMF Chief Executive Rob Stevens will be joining senior Government Ministers and top manufacturers next week to help celebrate the best of British manufacturing and explore ways the sector can support growth for the UK economy.
The Government’s Manufacturing Summit will be hosted by Business Secretary Vince Cable and Business Minister Mark Prisk, with a range of other Ministers in attendance. And it will provide Rob with the perfect opportunity to champion the marine manufacturing industry for the success story that it is.
Government and key industry leaders will be discussing the sector’s progress, the upcoming challenges and next steps, and Government will be providing further details on its work to put manufacturing at the heart of its Growth Programme.
The Summit will include a series of interactive sessions on a range of key issues, including promoting technology, apprenticeships and exporting. These sessions will then culminate in a Q&A session with an industry/Government panel, which includes the BMF’s Rob Stevens. Rob’s inclusion is recognition of the important work that he and the BMF have been doing to promote the leisure marine industry. Rob will also be representing the wider marine industry, in his role as co-chair of the Marine Industry Leadership Council.
The BMF has worked hard to raise the profile of the marine industry and highlight its excellent work to Government, and has seen considerable success over the last year. Business Minister Mark Prisk helped launch the Marine Industry Growth Strategy at last year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show and at this year’s Tullett Prebon London Boat Show, the Business Minister joined us again, as well as his Ministerial colleague John Hayes, Skills Minister.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase both the marine industry manufacturing sector and the BMF to Government, and share thoughts with the other key manufacturing sectors,” said BMF Chief Executive Rob Stevens on his inclusion.
In a recent press release announcing the Manufacturing Summit, senior Ministers made the following comments:
Business Secretary Vince Cable: “Our Manufacturing Summit creates the perfect platform for us to further strengthen our relationship with industry, and, more importantly, hear what its leaders have to say.”
Business Minister Mark Prisk: “we are hosting the Manufacturing Summit for a second year running to not only celebrate the importance of the sector, but also share and discuss the action Government is taking now to support businesses – from the £2.4 billion Regional Growth Fund and new Manufacturing Advisory Service to tackling outdated perceptions of the sector with our Make it in Great Britain campaign.”
The Manufacturing Summit is being held at the Bristol and Bath Science Park on Thursday 23 February.
