The BMF Welcomes New President
Published on 25/6/2012
The British Marine Federation (BMF) last week (Wednesday 20 June) was pleased to officially welcome Mike Cook as the new BMF President. After a term of three years as vice president, Mike Cook’s election was approved at the AGM and he took the mantle when the chain of office was handed over by Alan Morgan at the networking lunch on the same day.
Alan Morgan enjoyed a very successful Presidency at the BMF. He was instrumental in the work to improve governance, implementing the restructure of the BMF and ensuring profitability. His time spent guiding the BMF through challenging times has meant that a legacy of ‘the BMF responding to members needs’ is now firmly in place and benefits all members.
Mike Cook takes over with a wealth of experience in the industry. He is Director of Walton Marine and has 40 years experience working in the marine industry including time spent as a chartered surveyor, yacht broker and marina group owner. Mike has spent a lot of time working closely with the British Marine Federation sitting on Council for a number of years as he steps into his role as BMF President
On taking over Mike said: “I am honoured to be elected as President of the British Marine Federation and my father* would be very proud.
“The BMF has made a huge difference to me and my businesses over the last 40 years; put simply the BMF gave my businesses a competitive edge. I want all BMF members to feel like this.
“My watch will be not only making sure we hit the targets set out in the current business plan, but driving opportunities forward for the industry. Making sure the BMF supports members with innovation, ideas and forward thinking is essential for the future growth of the industry. For instance getting more people into boating is key to this.
I will continue the great work Alan and his predecessors have done to make sure the BMF is a customer led association, representing the members, engaging at every level.”
Rob Stevens, BMF Chief Executive added: “Alan was a very successful President ensuring that the members’ views were foremost in introducing improved governance, restructuring of the BMF and maintaining two world class boat shows. His energy and enthusiasm in dealing with ministers at the highest level and getting round to see most groups and associations has been a hallmark of his presidency.
“I am in no doubt that Mike will continue this approach and bring his wealth of experience in the marine industry to further enhance and grow the BMF.”
