Our commitment to the environment
8th May 2008
The British Marine Federation (BMF) aims to protect and
enhance the environment while making a committed contribution
towards the delivery of sustainable development through best
practice and education.
The BMF is the trade association for
the leisure marine industry representing around 1500 member
companies, with 19 group associations and 12 regions. The BMF also
owns London International Boat Show and PSP Southampton Boat Show.
These Shows provide a showcase for our industry that operates in
both the coastal and inland environment.
We will conduct our own activities and
operations to reflect best environmental practice and implement an
environmental management system to pursue sustainability and
continual improvement.
We will:
- meet, and, where relevant, adopt best
practice regarding all relevant UK and European legislative and
regulatory requirements and agreements;
- review our activities and operations to
identify environmental aspects and prioritise action to address
them;
- set ourselves appropriate environmental
targets;
- reduce energy and resource consumption by
promoting effective and efficient reduction methods consistent with
best practice;
- influence our suppliers and contractors to
ensure that goods and services procured support our environmental
policy and, in turn, encourage our suppliers and contractors to
improve their own environmental performance;
- raise awareness of the environment amongst
our employees and external colleagues;
- integrate environmental management into
training programmes for personnel;
- develop and implement green transport plans
for business and commuter travel;
- minimise the use of hazardous waste producing
materials, general waste generated, and to prevent pollution;
- ensure good management practices by reviewing
them regularly, to verify their effectiveness in achieving
environmental objectives.
