Question MarkHere we provide you with the opportunity to ask any question you might have about any aspects of the London Games 2012 that relates to our industry. We will do our best to answer your question (or find some who can) and post the answer here. If you have more specific questions that you can contact us directly on olympic@britishmarine.co.uk

As the Olympics section of the website is brand new, we haven't had any question through the web just yet. We have instead, got the ball rolling by including some questions that we have already been asked by members. Please note that you will need your member sign in information before submitting a question.

Q: I operate a marina near an Olympic venue. I would like to promote a special offer during the games to attract some of those visiting the event. Is this allowed?

A: Promoting your business during the games is not only allowed but should be encouraged! There is a fantastic opportunity to attract new customers and it is only natural that marine businesses will want to make the most of this.

The only limitation with these promotions is that they can't reference the games directly. That's not to say that if you are 400 yards from an Olympic venue you cannot say so - this is merely a statement of fact - but you cannot infer an association with the Games directly. For detailed information on what you can and cannot do, have a look at our Branding and Marketing page.

Q: My hireboat business is nowhere near an Olympic venue; I'm concerned that, with all the fuss surrounding the games our businesses will be forgotten!

A: The 'fuss' surrounding the Olympics should be seen as an opportunity by members without a direct link with the games. A number of Londoner's, in particular, will be looking for an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle and rural boating holidays could provide the perfect avenue of escape. Contact olympic@britishmarine.co.uk for more marketing ideas and to find out how your leisure marine tourism business can benefit from the Games.

Q: I'm worried about how to effectively market my business during the Games. Who can I speak to about this?

A; If you have any specific questions about marketing you can contact us on olympic@britishmarine.co.uk. Alternatively, if you would like to learn more about how to effectively market your business as a whole, our training team run a number of courses for members that can help. visit the training page on this website to learn more.
