Orust
Mission to “Open Yards at Orust”
Sweden, August 27-29 2010 _s.png)
Based on the island of Orust, approx 1 ½ hours
north of Gothenburg, the Open Yards event is a unique event in the
normal run of industry boatshows. Yards like Hallbery Rassy,
Najad, Nord West, Regina and Malo Yachts have an open door policy
for trade and public visitors alike over a three day period in
August.
The yards are also complemented by stands for
equipment suppliers. There are 120 yachts and 90 exhibitors
at this year’s event, which spans 4 different towns on the
island.
The Swedish market has rebounded well in the
current climate, the recent ICOMIA (International Council of Marine
Industry Associations) trend report showed that business has
improved in the six months prior to March 2010.
We are proposing to take a mission to the show
for companies new to the market. The objective is to learn
about the Swedish market, facilitate introductions to the local
market distributors and agents and to see at first hand the Swedish
manufacturing capabilities on Orust.
The BMF team will research the
travel/accommodation options and endeavour to arrange meetings for
Mission companies. We envisage travelling on the
26th August and returning to the UK on the
28th but each delegate would be able to arrange their
own itineraries. The main exhibitor evening is Friday August
27th and Mission delegates would be able to attend
this.
The Open Yards event is run by SWEBOAT (the
BMF’s counterpart in Sweden); the event web site is

and we have some further information on our web site at

UK Trade Mission to Brazil
Mission to Brazil in co-operation with the SSA, 7 - 13
August 2010

Shiprepair and Offshore Industries), the SSA (Shipbuilders and
Shiprepairers Association) and UKTI (UK Trade & Investment) are
taking a selected group of shipbuilders and ship repairers,
shipyard consulting engineers and marine equipment suppliers on a
Market Visit. If BMF member companies have serious intentions to
tackle this market this could be an ideal opportunity for them to
explore the emerging Brazilian market. The visit will coincide with
the Navalshore 2010 Naval and Offshore Shipbuilding Exhibition in
Rio de Janeiro where there may be an opportunity of presenting at
the Conference.

Turkey
Prospective UK business generated by
Turkish yard tour
Press Release dated 18/6/2010
Twelve UK companies recently participated on a
Tour of nine Turkish boatbuilding yards in the Antalya freezone
region and have reaped the benefits of exploring new export
areas.
The Tour was supported by UK Trade &
Investment (UKT&I) and local logistical management and yard
contact was undertaken by Ozgur Tuna, Trade and Investment Manager
responsible for Marine at the British Consulate in Istanbul.
The BMF commissioned the support via an Overseas Market
Information Service (OMIS) – this service is available to all UK
companies.
An array of potential business opportunities
for UK companies were formulated at the Turkish Yards including
opportunities to tender for new build projects, the chance to
present new technological advances and one to one meetings with
senior representatives.
Delegates were welcomed at a reception by the
Asbas, the operator of the Antalya Free trade Zone and were warmly
greeted.
Michael Grove, European Sales Manager,
Savage Marine Ltd commented “The tour was extremely well organised,
having a representative from the British consulate in Istanbul with
local knowledge of the area and business practice in Turkey was a
real bonus.
The shipyards we visited made a real
effort to welcome us and their presentations and show rounds were
very interesting and informative, I believe that our business will
benefit from the tour as I identified a number of opportunities
during our meetings”.
David Piper of Energy Solutions (UK) Ltd
said: “The Yard Tour gave us the opportunity to see a variety of
extensive opportunities in the south of Turkey. It would have been
impossible to achieve this independently. We met with senior staff
and were privileged to get incredible access to their
operations.”
UKTI Meet the Buyer at Seawork
First event hailed a success by International
Delegates
UKTI Meet the Buyer at Seawork, organised by
the British Commercial Boatbuilders Association (BCBA) with support
from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) was hailed a great success at
the recent Seawork International Show in Southampton.
Held over two days, 16 – 17 June 2010, the
event provided direct access to decision makers from UK
boatbuilders and distributors. It involved an organised
programme of one-to-one meetings, lasting 20-25 minutes, each with
international Buyers.
This year’s event included 100 individual
meetings with 13 buyers from 9 countries, which included Turkey,
Romania, Panama and Malaysia. In amongst the meetings the Buyers
took the opportunity to look around the Seawork Exhibition to see
what British manufacturers have on offer.
“UKTI Meet the Buyer at Seawork was full
of meetings with producers and distributors and I hope to
work together with them in the future successfully, the event was
extremely well organised with a variety of good UK suppliers” Said
Erdal Mengazi of Servernav Shipyard, Romania
“I must thank you for inviting me to
attend the UKTI Meet the Buyer at Seawork. When the concept was
described to me I could not picture how it would work, but after
attending I can now say that I have met some truly innovative
suppliers that I may not have known existed were it not for
your event” Oh Kean Shen of Pen Marine, Malaysia
