Richard Selby, Head of International Development at British Marine spent an evening as guest of the Secretary of State for International Trade, Dr Liam Fox MP at Lancaster House this week along with government ministers and industry figures from other sectors involved with international trade. It provided an opportunity to listen to the ‘inside track’ following another long day of debate in the House of Commons regarding the EU Withdrawal Agreement together with his personal prognosis of the events to come in the near future.

During Richard's personal discussions with the Permanent Secretary of State, Antonio Romeo and the Minister for Investment, Graham Stuart MP, Richard was able to reinforce the importance of the marine leisure, superyacht and commercial sectors and the continued need for government support to assist in the achievement of their international trade objectives. Richard said, "it is absolutely vital, as the United Kingdom withdraws from the European Union, that government promote UK PLC at overseas events with great vigour providing a platform to assist businesses to promote their high quality products and services to international markets. We have seen huge success for businesses where the UK government have supported an overseas show or event and these should be the case studies used by government to understand the value of such support."

Further discussions with the Minister for Investment are ongoing with a view to attending and supporting British Marine and Superyacht UK at International Shows during 2019.
