Last Saturday, over 40 local volunteers came together to collect over 17 bags of rubbish to protect Solent waters, the iconic coastal habitat and wildlife.

British Marine and The Green Blue organised the beach clean along with Sea-Changers and Friends of Western Shore to promote getting people out and around the water to look after the local environment.

The beach clean is part of British Marine’s Boat Show Environmental Pledge, now in its second year which aims to minimise the environmental impact of its world class event, Southampton International Boat Show. Some of the key changes for 2019 are delivering a solution to reducing the environmental impact of single use plastic onsite by only selling soft drinks and water in cans and using only compostable cups at our onsite catering outlets and providing water refill points throughout the Show. To find out more about the Environmental Pledge, visit the Southampton International Boat Show website.

The beach clean was covered by the press heavily including in broadcast ITV Meridian, BBC South and Southern Daily Echo.
