The EU commission has reviewed and updated the harmonisation of the ISO standards for lifejackets that are certified under the Personal protective equipment (PPE) regulations following an investigation into the failure of a lifejacket and a Formal Objection from Sweden.
A Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/1217 of 17 July 2019 on the harmonised standards for personal flotation devices lifejackets drafted in support of Council Directive 89/686/EEC has been published in the Official Journal of the EU.
The Decision restricts the presumption of conformity of the standards EN ISO 12402-2:2006, EN ISO 12402-3:2006 and EN ISO 12402-4:2006, harmonised under the previous Directive 89/686/EEC, with respect to some specific clauses.
