Last chance: Get a marine apprenticeship grant this academic year

Published on: 21 November 2019

Worshipful Company of Shipwrights _small

Established in 2014, with support from the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, the Shipwrights company has been offering grants to approximately 20 employers a year to financially support an apprentice in their first year.

For the academic year 2019 - 20, the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights still has some grants available. Priority is given to companies that are new to apprenticeships, but the Shipwrights will consider all applications on their merits.

  • The Shipwrights company will underwrite the complete cost of the apprentice’s wage during their first year
  • It guarantees to reimburse the SME business at a rate higher than the national apprenticeship minimum wage
  • Beneficiary companies must be an SME size business. Large companies that directly pay or benefit from, the apprenticeship levy are not eligible to apply

If your business is interested in applying for the scheme, then contact the apprenticeship scheme manager at or call Andy Levene on 07535 365101

The deadline for applying is 31 January 2020 but businesses should express their interest by 23 December 2019.

Please note, the direct beneficiary of the Shipwrights grant is the business, not the individual apprentice.
