1851 Trust seeks role models to support Maritime Roadshows

Published on: 10 October 2019

1851 Trust STEM girls

It is widely accepted that there is a forecast shortage of skilled science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workers. In addition, women are significantly under-represented in technical and engineering careers and the gender divide is clearly seen in school subject choices.

To inspire more young women to pursue STEM subjects, the 1851 Trust is running 10 Maritime Roadshows for Girls aimed at girls in years 7 and 8 to help them make informed subject choices ahead of their GCSEs.

In order to support this, the 1851 Trust is looking for volunteers and role models at all dates to support the National roadshows. STEM Ambassadors will be key to the success of the day, there are a number of roles to help support the activities during the day.

To find out more about the volunteer roles click here. The roles are imperative to the success at the roadshows and support from Maritime employees give the students at the roadshows firsthand access to those forging a career in the industry.
