Published on: 07 December 2020Maritime UK is starting work on the next round of the Maritime Masters programme and inviting applications and ideas. The programme is aimed at strengthening links between UK industry and academia, whilst providing valuable research to support the maritime sector. The core idea is that a Masters student does a research project defined by their industry partner, within the guidance offered by their university.
Students are given the opportunity to research topics suggested by industry, work closely with industry representatives and professionals from across the maritime sector through events and engagement throughout the year. The programme culminates each year in a high-level Finalist Reception, where finalist students selected by each of the participating universities, present their research to an audience of industry representatives and one will be voted the winner.
This year’s winner was Andrea Chipolina of Southampton University for her project Foil performance of a flapping foil wave propelled vessel. There is more detail here.
Any student enrolled on a participating university’s selected course is eligible to participate in the programme and at programme events. Student finalists are chosen through an internal process at their respective university, but the programme aims to benefit the wider student cohort. If you are a University or education centre interested in participating, please contact Blue Davies, Head of Training.
