Published on: 19 May 2020Thank you to all our members who lobbied their local MPs about a fairer, more even support package for the marine industry in response to COVID-19.
British Marine has been supporting you to lobby your local MPs to add your voices to our requests. A massive thank you goes out to all our members that took the time to contact their local MP.
British Marine has been delighted with the response from our members and the ensuing efforts to lobby local MPs up and down the country. Already, there are a number of local MPs writing to the Secretary of State for Business, as well as Environment, and Treasury, to present member cases and the case of the sector more widely.
The relationships you have developed over the last couple of months, many pre-existing, are important to foster on an ongoing basis, and therefore British Marine would like to suggest that you continue to build on this contact in the weeks to come.
It is recommended to write and follow up with your local MP (if you have not done so already) thanking them for their efforts and inviting them to visit your business premises (if possible) once lockdown is lifted.
Over the last couple of months British Marine has been working hard to communicate the challenges our industry faces to Government on behalf of our members; through writing to the Secretary of State for Business Alok Sharma MP, and other key individuals in The Treasury, No.10 and Departments across Government.
This culminated in our sector being raised in a session of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee a couple of weeks ago, by Nusrat Ghani MP.
Moreover, our calls for support for the ‘forgotten middle’ – businesses who are not eligible for Government support loans and simultaneously don’t reach the Bank of England’s Covid Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF) requirements – were addressed when the Chancellor announced additional support for these medium sized businesses. This announcement, and other support loans for smaller businesses announced in recent weeks are very much a reflection of the hard work and efforts across the sector.
Thank you once again for all of your efforts. Please don’t hesitate to email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any further questions.
