Currently there are different types of apprenticeship schemes: Apprenticeship Frameworks and the new Apprenticeship Standards, which are sometimes referred to as Trailblazers.
Apprenticeship Frameworks have a number of pathways linked to them. Due to the apprenticeship reforms the Frameworks and associated Pathways are, over time, being phased out and replaced with new employer led Apprenticeship Standards.
The new Apprenticeship Standards are designed by groups of employers that have gained the approval of the Institute for Apprenticeships to design and develop a new occupational apprenticeship. The new Apprenticeship Standards clearly detail what an apprentice needs to know and understand and the skills and behaviours required to be competent in the job role.
