The Global Marina Institute (GMI) has endorsed delivery of the online Intermediate Marina Management Course (IMM) with timing most suited to participation from the Middle East, UK/Europe and Asia. The IMM is delivered under the GMI banner by both the Marina Industries Association (MIA) and British Marine.
The Chairman of GMI Tony Browne said this is an exciting development for the marina industry and part of GMI’s plans to ensure that quality marina training can still be delivered despite the barriers the pandemic presents. He comments: “The IMM is the foundation course of the GMI career pathway that leads through to certification either as a Certified Marina Operator, Manager or Professional (CMO, CMM or CMP). The MIA conducted the first ever online IMM earlier this year and GMI has carefully evaluated the feedback by delegates and the MIA. As a result of these findings including additional strategies to address the physical networking gap of online courses, the GMI is very pleased that a further online IMM will be conducted this year.”
Head of Training at British Marine, Blue Davies, said: “This is a very positive initiative and we are actively involved with MIA to ensure participants have a high quality learning experience.”
MIA Chairman and President Andrew Chapman, said: “A lot was learned from the first online IMM. This second course will effectively launch participants on the GMI career pathway.”
The first online IMM attracted 17 participants who rated the course equally with past face to face IMM courses in all areas except networking. To reduce this gap the GMI endorsed course will have increased lecturer dialogue in real time, increased class interaction time and more facilitated small group discussions.
The course commences 12 November and ends 8 December. Further course information may be found on the websites of BM and the MIA with course registration directed through the MIA website.
