A rare picture of the camera shy Wendy
British Marine is saddened to learn of the death of our friend and colleague Wendy Willmott.
For a number of years, Wendy has been the Secretary and a key driving force behind British Marine Isle of Wight. She provided British Marine members on the island a key link into British Marine but also connected members with each other to ensure the Isle of Wight had a supportive British Marine community. She also organised the annual British Marine Isle of Wight Fun on the Water event which was attended by many Isle of Wight residents.
Wendy for many years worked at SeaSafe Systems with British Marine Isle of Wight Chair Jeremy Dale. Jeremy had this to say about Wendy, “Wendy was a much loved and valued member of the SeaSafe team, if something needed organising Wendy would be on to it immediately. When she had the opportunity of taking on the role of Secretary for British Marine Isle of Wight she immediately rolled up her sleeves and got straight on with the job. Wendy’s character was larger than life and with her bubbly personality and “Can Do” attitude she was a formidable force. Those who attended our regular BM meetings will know that Wendy was the one in charge. She will be missed by all who knew her”.
As well as being respected by members on the Isle of Wight, Wendy was popular with British Marine staff. Blue Davies - Head of Training paid tribute to Wendy by saying; “Wendy always made me feel welcome on all my visits to the island and will be missed from the British Marine community. Her knowledge of members on the Isle of Wight allowed me to effectively support the training needs of those members”.
British Marine’s Head of Membership, Simon Boyd, reflected on Wendy’s contribution to British Marine by saying “Wendy was the backbone of British Marine Isle of Wight, driving the members to connect with and support one another but also acting as an advocate for the needs of members and ensuring that British Marine knew the challenges faced by members on the Island. On a personal level Wendy was a delight to be around and to work with. She’ll be greatly missed by myself and the team”.
British Marine sends its sincere condolences to Wendy’s partner and to all her friends and colleagues.
