British Marine Scotland member, You & Sea Ltd, an RYA Marine Training Centre in the West of Scotland, has gained SQA Approved Centre status and the ability to deliver the SQA Level 3 Award in Maritime Studies: Radar and Electronic Chart Systems in Code Vessels.
Director and Chief Instructor, Euan Carruthers, is delighted with the new approval.
He comments; “Since the company was formed in 2014, it has been our desire to become a maritime training centre which specialises in commercial motorboat training that commercial companies and skippers alike can trust and rely on for training courses and advice. We have built a firm base of commercial clients who regularly use our services and because of that we are constantly seeking to expand our portfolio of courses that specifically relate to running small commercial vessels. Our courses aim to provide a training centre that can offer all the training that a small boat commercial skipper will require, without having to travel long distances. This desire has led us to successfully gain SQA Approved Centre status and the ability to deliver the SQA Level 3 Award in Maritime Studies: Radar and Electronic Chart Systems in Code Vessels. This five-day course is made up of 2 x 2.5 day courses (Radar and ECS). Skippers are currently advised to complete the qualifications however both courses will become a requirement for skippers and potentially crew working under the Workboat Code 2 in January 2022. It is our desire throughout 2021 to continue course development and support for the commercial companies who are looking to get staff trained.”
In addition, You and Sea Ltd has also expanded its range of training available to include Boatmaster training. Euan added: “We as a company have invested significantly in new training resources, completed new recognition with the SQA and taken on Boatmaster training, to provide a reliable source of training for commercial companies operating in Scotland. There still is a lack of training providers for small commercial vessels in Scotland and we hope with our Master 200gt, Boatmaster and SQA Radar and ECS courses along with all our other RYA courses, that we can go some-way to fill that gap.”
