The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has published updates to the designated standards list for the RCR

These standards will be designated from 18 November 2021 with the previous versions losing their designation on 27 February 2023.

Border Force provides new electronic form for pleasure craft arriving and departing from the UK

The update now means that persons arriving or departing can notify Border Force electronically, instead of having to post a hard copy of the completed form.


Life-saving signals leaflet for ships, aircraft or persons in distress published by the MCA

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has published a new leaflet for life-saving signals which will be used by ships, aircraft or persons in distress when communicating with life-saving stations, maritime rescue units and aircraft engaged in search and rescue operations.

The Office for Product Safety & Standards released their weekly Product Safety Report which lists all of the products which are unsafe to be used and have subsequently been recalled. This report highlighted one product which is particularly applicable to the marine industry.


Prepare for new Border Controls

The Government's timetable for the full implementation of Border Controls on imports is scheduled to start on 1 January 2022 when full customs declarations and controls will be introduced.


Rules of Origin grace period to end

From 1 January 2022 businesses will have to demonstrate that they are compliant with the new UK - EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement rules and be able to prove the origin of their products.

Return of Scottish Recreational Boating and Marine Tourism Cross Party Group

Last month saw the return of the Scottish Parliment Cross Party Group on Recreational Boating and Marine Tourism. The group had to be re-registered following the Scottish Parliament election earlier this year and we are delighted to report that the Cross Party Group on Recreational Boating and Marine Tourism will again continue. Stuart McMillan MSP will continue as Convenor with a new vice-convenor Elena Whitham MSP (for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley).

British Marine reacts to Spring Budget 2021 Red letter day for the marine industry

After months of extensive consultation and discussion with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), I am delighted that the Chancellor has today announced that the entitlement to use red diesel will be maintained for all commercial boat operators and for private pleasure craft users in Great Britain.
