We’re proud to announce the finalists for the 2026 British Marine Apprentice of the Year Award – six rising stars making waves across the marine industry.
Abigail has quickly become a valued member of the team at Princess Yachts, impressing colleagues with her positive attitude, adaptability and commitment to continuous improvement. Working within the fast-paced kit parts department, she has consistently developed her efficiency while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. Abigail is also recognised for the positive impact she has on team morale and for supporting and mentoring newer apprentices entering the business.
Jordan began his apprenticeship as part of a career change and has quickly shown exceptional adaptability and resilience within the business. Working as a fit-out carpenter on the Y72 line, he has expanded his skill set across multiple areas of boatbuilding and embraced new challenges with a positive attitude. Colleagues value Jordan’s willingness to learn, ask questions and support others, even when working through production challenges and changing workflows.
Since joining Fairline, Alfie has earned praise across multiple departments for his hardworking attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. In just six months, he has shown significant development in both his confidence and technical skills, with colleagues consistently highlighting his positive approach and strong work ethic. Alfie has quickly established himself as a credit to the Fairline team.
Matthew has demonstrated outstanding commitment to both his academic studies and workplace development throughout his apprenticeship with Trinity House Hill Robinson. Alongside balancing demanding studies and industry responsibilities, he has played an active role in the Warsash Maritime Society leadership group and contributed confidently during the MCA audit cadet panel. Matthew’s professionalism, leadership and dedication to the maritime sector have made him a standout nominee.
Jack has embraced every aspect of marina and boatyard life at Fambridge Yacht Haven, demonstrating versatility, professionalism and reliability throughout his apprenticeship. From boat handling and repairs to customer service and health and safety responsibilities, Jack consistently approaches each task with enthusiasm and maturity. His positive attitude and strong work ethic have made him a highly valued member of the team.
Niamh has shown determination, resilience and growing confidence throughout her apprenticeship at Princess Yachts. Working on the Y72 line, she has gained hands-on experience across a range of engineering tasks and become part of the company’s power-up and test team, supporting fault-finding and diagnostics across vessels. Alongside balancing the challenges of dyslexia and long working hours, Niamh has continued to develop both technically and personally, earning praise for her proactive attitude and contribution to the wider team.
Each of these exceptional apprentices has shown outstanding dedication, impact, and promise in their roles – and this is just the beginning.
The winner will be announced on Tuesday 22 September 2026 during the Apprentice Recognition Ceremony Southampton International Boat Show.
Also on Tuesday 22 September 2026, the Southampton International Boat Show will once again host the Apprentice Recognition Ceremony – a celebration of the next generation driving our industry forward.
From boatbuilders to business administrators, engineers to events assistants – apprentices across all marine pathways will be recognised for their hard work and achievements.
More than 70 apprentices from leading companies across the sector will be presented with their certificates in front of peers, industry leaders and special guests.
This ceremony highlights not only the progress of individuals, but the commitment of the marine sector to supporting skills, training and careers.
