ICOMIA publishes latest report from 110th session of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee
7 July 2025

The International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) held its 110th session from 18-27 June 2025, with several important developments relevant to the leisure, superyacht and wider marine sectors.

A major focus was on the adoption of updated Revised Recommendations for Entering Enclosed Spaces Aboard Ships. These amendments strengthen safety measures.

The Committee also advanced work on safety regulations for alternative fuels such as ammonia and biofuels, aiming to close regulatory gaps as the industry shifts towards low-emission technologies.

In addition, the MSC agreed to develop a non-mandatory Cybersecurity Code covering ships and port facilities, with a risk-based, non-prescriptive approach, and confirmed further progress on rules for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS), with adoption of the new MASS Code expected in May 2026.

Other notable items included plans for a full review of the ISM Code guidelines and updates to pilot transfer requirements, mooring and towing equipment guidance, and dangerous goods regulations.
