He worked on each year’s planning of the stands, allocation of space, and the onsite supervision of lorry and boating exhibit arrivals and departures.
During the Show, he monitored all aspects of the day to day running of the Exhibition and public attendance which peaked at over 300,000 visitors over 8 days in January. It was regarded as one of the major International Boat Shows with a significant number of overseas visitors, which boosted the development and growth of the British Boating Industry.
Richard was known and respected for his attention to detail and good-humoured dealing with problems and issues. He was the ‘go to’ man for the history of and facts about the Earls Court Boat Shows.
Richard’s early years were spent in India where his Father served in the Police Force. As a teenager, Richard became involved with ‘Shakespeareana’, a British touring theatre company, which was led by Geoffrey and Laura Kendal. Richard toured India extensively as well as South East Asia.
Richard is survived by his five beloved sons.
