£1m investment project to power C.Toms & Son’s vision for a greener, smarter boatyard
17 June 2025

C.Toms & Sons are delighted to announce that they have been granted funding from the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme.

The project aims to develop a fully upgraded, modernised, and sustainable boatyard, leading to improved productivity and diversification into new markets within sustainable boatbuilding.

The £1m investment project will update and modernise its existing carpentry, welding, and engineering workshops. In order to meet a rising demand for sustainable aluminium projects, a new dedicated aluminium welding workshop will be constructed.

To enhance operational capacity, they will acquire new electric machinery to replace some of the older diesel-powered machines and invest in a mobile vessel trolley for transporting vessels in the yard. These initiatives will help them to achieve their environmental goals by lowering fuel consumption and emissions.

The project will drive significant reductions in carbon emissions while also improving staff skills, welfare, and productivity. By investing in sustainable technologies and state-of-the-art facilities, they can grow the business and secure a safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible future.

These enhancements will ensure long-term competitiveness and growth as a business, solidifying their position as an important part of the local community and marine sector supply chain.

This project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council is responsible for managing projects funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund through the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme.
