Seahorse Amphibious launches world’s first all-electric Amphibious Passenger Vehicle (APV)
7 November 2025

Seahorse Amphibious Vehicles has become the world’s first manufacturer of all-electric land and water passenger vehicles, representing a major leap forward in efficiency, sustainability and performance for the sector.

The new electric models are the result of 10 years of research and development, purpose-built from the ground up, using the latest technology and fully compliant with current UK maritime safety legislation (MSN 1823) and pending ES-TRIN European Regulations.

Built to accommodate 36 passengers and two crew, they can run for a full day on a single charge, while delivering improved build times and enhanced reliability.

This achievement marks a major milestone in Seahorse’s strategy to establish an ambitious production line, aiming to scale production to a rate of up to 24 amphibious passenger vehicles (APVs) per year from its 25,000 sq ft UK headquarters in Slough and Southampton, within the next 12 months.

Seahorse Amphibious Vehicles was founded by father and son team, Graham and Ed Lumley in 2015, three years after Graham launched Windsor Duck Tours, which has been operating successfully in Windsor for 13 years. It is the only manufacturer that designs, builds and operates its own amphibious vehicles.

We have been passionate about expanding the duck tour concept for many years. Combining our experience and expertise in manufacturing and operating our own amphibious vehicles, we are proud to be recognised as pioneers in the design and manufacture of all-electric ducks. We look forward to seeing Seahorse APVs operating in cities around the world in the near future.

The revolutionary all-electric model has now completed both road and river testing and is ready to join Seahorse Amphibious’ fleet of duck tour vehicles, which are currently operational in Windsor and Liverpool in the UK, and Cape Town in South Africa.

We have a number of exciting developments to follow today’s announcement. Our newly launched electric APV builds on the success of our current diesel hydraulic models, which are already in operation in Windsor, Liverpool, and Cape Town, with further city launches planned for 2026. We strongly believe that the electric amphibious passenger vehicle will drive significant growth in the tourism market for city experiences.

The new all-electric vehicles are designed to operate quietly and cleanly by combining cutting-edge technology with comfort and environmental responsibility.

They have a maximum water speed of eight knots and limited land speed of 30 mph, offering a smooth and responsive experience both on land and at sea.

This announcement highlights Seahorse’s ongoing evolution as a global leader in the manufacture of amphibious passenger vehicles.
