Member Update: Monitoring the Fuel Situation
2 April 2026

Message from Brian Clark, Member Services Director, British Marine

I would like to take this opportunity to reassure all members that British Marine is closely monitoring the situation relating to the ongoing conflict in the middle east and the subsequent impact this is having on fuel prices and its potential supply to the UK.  British Marine has a strong relationship with Government and we are maintaining regular contact with key government departments and agencies, including the Department for Business & Trade (DBT), Department for Transport (DfT) and Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), to ensure we share the latest information and insight between each other.

Please be assured that we are actively engaged on your behalf, tracking the situation closely, listening to your concerns, and ensuring the voice of the marine industry is represented at the highest level.  Our External Relations Manager is having regular meetings with the Department for Transport's Maritime Resilience Team which has assured us that fuel suppliers are not yet reporting concerns to the Government.

However, at this stage, it is too early to predict what may happen.  Our priority is to ensure that all members are informed and supported.

British Marine is well-positioned to access the latest information and developments as they arise and as greater clarity emerges, we will keep you updated with the information you need to plan ahead with confidence.

If you are noticing impacts or anticipate any challenges to your business, please do share these with us so we can represent members effectively. You can contact us at publicaffairs@britishmarine.co.uk

We will continue to keep you updated as developments occur.

Brian Clark
Member Services Director, British Marine
