VETUS to host electric narrowboat experience day at Aqueduct Marina

Boaters to experience the shift to electric, emission-free cruising

VETUS, a global leader in marine propulsion and onboard systems, will host an electric narrowboat experience day on Saturday 25 April at Aqueduct Marina in Nantwich, Cheshire. The event gives boaters the opportunity to participate in electric, emission-free cruising first-hand and discover why more inland waterway users are moving from diesel towards quieter, cleaner and more efficient electric propulsion.

Hosted by VETUS dealer, Kings Lock Chandlery, the event will take place from 10am to 3pm at Aqueduct Marina. Visitors will have the opportunity to take the helm of a brand new, fully electric Collingwood narrowboat, with 15-minute test drives available throughout the day. Live demonstrations from VETUS experts will also provide insight into electric propulsion systems and the future of sustainable inland boating.

This event is about giving boaters the chance to feel the difference electric propulsion delivers, from the silence and smooth control, to the benefits it brings to both the onboard experience and the wider waterways. Going electric isn’t about compromise, it’s about improving comfort and performance while protecting the canals for future generations.

Ray Browning Branch Manager at VETUS UK

The narrowboats on the day will be powered by the VETUS E-LINE 11kW electric propulsion system, a powerful solution designed for canal boats and heavier inland craft. Supported by a high-capacity lithium battery bank and solar panels, the system delivers smooth, silent cruising with zero exhaust emissions, transforming both the onboard experience and the impact boats have on the waterways.

Designed for ease of integration, the E-LINE system fits directly onto existing inboard propellor shaft systems, making it suitable for both new builds and retrofit projects. Smart motor management ensures efficient energy use, extended range and reliable performance, while electronic braking and integrated electric bow thrusters provides precise low-speed handling, improving manoeuvrability when docking or navigating locks.

With no engine noise, vibrations or exhaust emissions, electric propulsion offers a more comfortable onboard experience while significantly reducing environmental impact and helping protect the character and quality of the UK’s inland waterways.
