C Toms & Son Ltd update on boatyard upgrade following grant investment
18 February 2026

Following the successful award of grant funding from the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme in May 2025, C Toms & Son Ltd is delighted to update on progress of its major boatyard upgrade.

Since securing the funding, the business has invested in a range of modern, sustainable equipment and infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency, safety and customer experience. Key additions include a new electric telehandler, cherry pickers and scissor lifts, all powered by newly installed solar panels, supporting the company’s commitment to more sustainable operations.

In November, a mobile vessel trolley arrived, enabling the safe movement of vessels weighing up to 100 tonnes throughout the yard and boat sheds. Alongside this, extensive internal upgrades have been completed across the stores, engineers’ workshop, carpentry workshop and fibreglass room, with new machinery introduced to modernise facilities and improve workflow.

Further improvements include the installation of water filtration tanks, currently underway, and a new remote-control slipway winch, designed to make vessel handling quicker, safer and more efficient. One of the final stages of the project will see the construction of a bespoke aluminium workshop, providing a dedicated space for specialist aluminium welding.

With just over a month remaining until completion, the team is already delighted with the transformation and looks forward to welcoming customers back to experience the benefits of these improvements first-hand.
