AMC expands specialist marine cable range as it joins British Marine
7 July 2026

Behind every boat, yacht and marine project that captures attention across the sector, there are systems most people never see.

Power distribution, lighting, communications, navigation and control all depend on cable that has been correctly specified, reliably manufactured and selected for the environment in which it will perform.

In marine applications, where moisture, saltwater, vibration, temperature change and long-term wear are all part of the operating conditions, cable is not a background detail. It’s fundamental to the safety, reliability and performance of the vessel.

It is in this part of the marine supply chain that Auto Marine Cables Ltd, known across the industry as AMC, continues to grow its presence.

The Greater Manchester-based cable manufacturer has recently become a new member of British Marine, joining the organisation at a time when its specialist marine cable range is expanding and its technical support for the sector is becoming increasingly important.

A stronger marine offer

AMC has a heritage dating back to 1964, when the business was originally established to supply high-quality products to the automotive sector. Over the last 60+ years, it has grown into a UK cable manufacturer with an international customer base, supplying cable and components across a wider range of demanding applications, including marine.

That growth is now reflected in the continued development of its marine range.

OceanFlex, first launched in 2014, remains a central part of AMC’s marine offer and is already used by distributors, boat builders, marine engineers and manufacturers across global markets. Designed, built and tested with durability in mind, the range supports marine and industrial applications where corrosion resistance, confidence in specification and long-term reliability are essential.

More recently, AMC has expanded its marine portfolio further with the addition of Arctic-T and Lloyd’s Register-approved Corronex, giving customers more choice for challenging, exposed and specification-led environments.

  • Arctic-T has been developed for applications where low temperatures, harsh conditions and continued flexibility are important considerations. And, while it sits within AMC’s wider marine range, it also has relevance across industrial, construction and mobile power applications where standard cable may not offer the performance or handling required.

  • Corronex LR has been designed for more demanding marine environments where durability, protection and long-term reliability are critical. Its construction includes tinned copper conductors, EPR insulation and a halogen-free, flame-retardant sheath, making it suited to applications where saltwater exposure, chemical resistance, mechanical stress and compliance all need to be carefully considered.

The company also has further products within the marine range currently in testing and development.

Joining British Marine

We are delighted to become a member of British Marine and to join a network that represents such an important and highly skilled sector. Marine has been a significant part of our business for many years, both in the UK and through our international distribution network, and membership gives us the opportunity to build closer relationships, share knowledge and contribute more actively to the sector. It also comes at an exciting time for AMC. Our marine range has developed significantly, there is much more in the pipeline, and in many ways, we feel we are only just getting going, despite us already having 60 years under our belt as a business! For us, the focus is on giving customers confidence in the cable they specify, from quality and compliance through to suitability for the environment it is going into.

AMC cable and accessories are already supplied into more than 50 countries worldwide, with the business continuing to invest in product development, technical support and the way its cable range is structured and presented to customers.

Helping customers specify with confidence

For marine distributors, boat builders, installers and project teams, cable selection often needs to take account of much more than size, colour or availability.

The installation environment, operating conditions, regulatory requirements, long-term performance expectations and the practical realities of working on vessels all matter. Access can be limited. Conditions can be harsh. Reliability is expected long after installation is complete.

Marine is a significant growth area for AMC, and we have made a clear strategic commitment to develop our product portfolio around the specific demands of the sector. Corronex LR and Arctic-T are important additions to that range, but successful product development in marine is not just about bringing new cable to market. It is about understanding the environments our products will be used in, the approval pathways customers need to work through, and the project timelines they are working to. British Marine membership gives us a valuable platform to engage more closely with the sector, including marine stakeholders, vessel operators, maintenance yards and industry partners. That insight will be important as we continue to invest in certification, regulatory approval and further product development. Our aim is to give customers greater confidence when specifying cable for demanding marine environments, supported by products that meet the standards, reliability and availability the sector expects.

Ian Harrison Commercial Director at AMC

As AMC continues to develop its marine range, the focus is on more than product availability. It is about giving distributors, boat builders, installers and marine specialists access to cable they can specify with confidence, supported by a manufacturer that understands the environments those products need to perform in.

British Marine membership marks an important step in that direction, providing a platform for AMC to build closer relationships across the sector and share further developments as its marine offer continues to evolve.

With further products already in testing and development, there is plenty more to come from AMC’s marine range as the business continues to make waves across the sector.
