More than 30 members of British Marine’s Access to Boating Association came together at Rockley on 30 June for a highly successful member event, providing an opportunity to discuss key industry challenges, celebrate achievements, and explore the future of the sector.
Set in the stunning surroundings of Rockley and blessed with excellent weather, the event highlighted the strength and vibrancy of the Access to Boating community. It was particularly encouraging to see the Association active and engaged, with speakers and delegates alike demonstrating a genuine passion for increasing participation in boating and ensuring a sustainable future for the sector.
The day began with a refresher on the Futures Project, delivered by Jonathan White, before members took part in an important discussion exploring both the opportunities and challenges facing the Access to Boating sector. The session encouraged valuable dialogue around the future direction of the industry and how businesses can work collectively to support growth and accessibility.
A series of informative presentations followed, covering a range of fascinating and highly relevant topics.
Throughout the day, a recurring theme was the importance of attracting and developing the next generation of marine professionals. Discussions highlighted the need to promote employment opportunities within the industry and encourage more young people to consider careers in the marine sector. Delegates also explored the exciting plans being developed across the industry to safeguard waterways, strengthen participation and ensure the long-term success of the sector for years to come.
Before lunch, members gathered to celebrate excellence within the sector as Quinton Hall of Haven Knox-Johnston, Chair of the Access to Boating Association, presented the inaugural Access to Boating Sector Awards to winners in attendance.
The awards recognised organisations that are making a significant contribution to the sector through innovation, sustainability and outstanding service.
A networking lunch followed, providing delegates with the opportunity to continue conversations, exchange ideas and strengthen relationships within the industry. The event concluded with a tour of Rockley’s impressive facilities, giving attendees further insight into one of the UK's leading watersports and activity centres.
Special thanks were extended to Jack Clark and the entire Rockley team for their support in hosting and helping to deliver the event.
The event served as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when businesses, organisations and individuals come together with a shared purpose. It was a great example of the power of collaboration and the positive outcomes that can be achieved when the industry works collectively for the common good of the Access to Boating sector and the wider marine industry. With such enthusiasm, expertise and commitment on display throughout the day, the future of the sector looks exceptionally promising.
