British Marine is proud to announce the finalists for the

Apprentice of the Year 2026 Award, celebrating the next generation of talent shaping the future of the marine industry.

This year’s finalists have been selected following a highly competitive nomination process, with entries submitted from across the sector by employers and training providers keen to recognise the achievements of their apprentices. The quality of submissions has once again highlighted the strength, diversity, and dedication of individuals entering the marine workforce through apprenticeship pathways.

The finalists for 2026 are:

  • Jordan Matthew-Coles – Princess Yachts
  • Niamh Taylor-May – Princess Yachts
  • Jack Hayden – Fambridge Yacht Marina

Each finalist has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to their role, combining technical ability with a strong work ethic and a clear passion for the marine industry. From hands-on practical skills to teamwork, problem-solving, and professional development, these individuals exemplify the high standards expected of today’s marine apprentices.

Notably, two finalists this year come from Princess Yachts, a company with a long-standing reputation for supporting apprentice development and investing in future talent. Their continued presence among the finalists reflects the strength of their training programmes and commitment to nurturing skilled professionals within the sector. Meanwhile, Fambridge Yacht Haven marina’s representation highlights the breadth of opportunity within the industry, with marinas playing a key role in developing operational, customer service, and technical expertise.

The Apprentice of the Year Award forms a key part of British Marine’s efforts to promote careers in the sector and underline the importance of apprenticeships in ensuring a sustainable and skilled workforce. As the marine industry continues to evolve—embracing new technologies, environmental practices, and customer expectations—apprenticeships remain a vital route for bringing in fresh perspectives and future-ready skills.

Speaking on this year’s nominations, British Marine recognised the outstanding calibre of entries received, noting the enthusiasm, innovation, and resilience displayed by apprentices across a wide range of disciplines. The judging process was particularly competitive, with nominees demonstrating not only technical competence, but also leadership potential and a proactive approach to their professional development.

British Marine extends its sincere thanks to all those who submitted nominations, as well as to the employers, mentors, and training providers who play such a critical role in supporting apprentices throughout their journey. Their ongoing commitment ensures that apprentices are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in a dynamic industry.

The winner of the Apprentice of the Year 2026 Award will be announced on Tuesday 22nd of September during the Southampton International Boat Show —one of the most prestigious events in the marine calendar. The award ceremony will provide an opportunity to celebrate not only the finalists, but the wider achievements of apprentices across the industry.

As anticipation builds ahead of the announcement, British Marine encourages the sector to recognise and celebrate the contributions of apprentices at every level. The success of this year’s finalists serves as a powerful reminder of the value apprentices bring to businesses and the vital role they play in shaping the future of the marine industry.
