Your views sought on the cost of doing business
12 May 2026

Having a competitive cost base is essential for a business to be able to pursue its growth ambitions. And yet today there are many within our industry that are struggling under the burden of ever higher taxes and more regulations. This is why, as members of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), British Marine is backing the ‘Cost of Doing Business’ campaign.

With support from British Marine members, we can assist the CBI in pulling together a flagship report that will highlight how rising operating and external costs are increasing the cost of doing business, which in turn,  is constraining businesses’ ability to invest, hire and grow.

To help with this important campaign, please take a few minutes to complete  our member survey on how the cost of doing business has changed since 2019 and how it has impacted your investment and hiring decisions, as well as pricing pressures.

Your feedback will help inform our continued engagement with government and, whilst observing our usual privacy policies, we will share our industry responses with the CBI to aid their more detailed analytical work to evidence the challenges faced, including an update to  CBI’s business tax burden analysis for FY25/26.

Given today’s heightened economic uncertainty caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, coupled with the rising energy costs squeezing incomes, it is vital we now press the Government to take all possible action it can to ease the pressure on UK businesses, including on those companies within our own industry.
