Commercial insurance broker joins growing industry collaboration ahead of BM Academy launch

British Marine has announced Clegg Gifford as the official Course Partner of the British Marine Training Academy (BM Academy); further strengthening the ongoing development of the industry's new digital learning platform set to launch at the Southampton International Boat Show.

For over 50 years, Clegg Gifford has worked with SMEs to find the right insurance solutions for their needs, earning them a reputation for helping customers make informed decisions and providing peace of mind. The same commitment underpins its partnerships, and this new collaboration with British Marine reflects a shared commitment to investing in skills, supporting businesses and contributing to the long-term success of the sector.

The partnership will support accelerating the rollout of the Academy’s growing portfolio of online courses, tailored to the marine industry and represents one of the most significant investments in professional development the leisure marine industry has seen in decades.

We’re committed to helping marine businesses build resilience, protect what matters and create the conditions for sustainable growth. At Clegg Gifford, that starts with taking the time to understand each customer’s business, risk profile and insurance requirements, so we can provide solutions that are right for their individual needs.

That same commercial focus is why we’re proud to support the British Marine Training Academy. Investing in skills, training and professional development is essential to strengthening the leisure marine sector, helping businesses attract and retain talent, improve capability and unlock future growth. As we continue to expand our presence in the marine market, this partnership gives us a valuable opportunity to showcase Clegg Gifford to a wider audience while contributing to an initiative that will deliver lasting value for businesses, individuals and the wider industry.

Courses will span technical skills, leadership, compliance, innovation and Continuing Professional Development (CPD), alongside introductory learning designed to attract, develop and retain the next generation of marine professionals.

One of the first courses to launch will be Introduction to the Marine World, an entry-level programme for new entrants and career changers, as well as businesses looking to effectively onboard employees who are new to the sector. Many more courses are also already in development.

Businesses, HR managers, training leads and marine professionals are encouraged to register their interest now to receive Academy launch updates and early access information.

The British Marine Training Academy has been developed in response to what our members and the wider industry have told us they need – accessible, flexible, high-quality learning that supports both businesses and individuals throughout their careers. Our Founding Partners have been instrumental in helping bring this vision to life, and I am delighted to welcome Clegg Gifford as our official Course Partner. Their support will help us accelerate the development of new courses and continue expanding the Academy, ensuring we can meet the changing needs of our industry for many years to come.
