Place of work: Shepperton Marina
Hours of work: Five days over seven, including weekends. Hours 08.30 to 17.30 (09:30 to 17:00 on Sunday).
Shepperton Marina prides itself on being the best marina on the river Thames. In order for us to provide the best marina we must have a team in place to provide a first-class service. The position of ‘Marina Operative’ is a very important one to the company.
The primary role is to upsell the Marina by offering a first-class service to new and existing berth holders and ensure the Marina is safe by carrying out thorough daily / weekly checks.
· Carry out daily rounds (morning & afternoon) of the whole marina checking on all boats, pontoons, ferry & facilities. The pontoons are to be hosed and swept daily. Minor issues should be dealt with immediately (for example, re-tying of lines, adjusting fenders) and reported to customer via email on Harbour Assist. Maintenance issues must be recorded on Harbour Assist and more serious findings should be reported back to Marina management.
· Advise berth holders of any problems with their boat either in person, by telephone, by email or text depending on the severity. All communications must be logged on Harbour Assist.
· Ensure the site is continuously looking clean & presentable including notice boards are up to date, the marina is litter free, trolleys are available at every trolley bay, bins are not overflowing, name plates, facilities are clean and presentable, pontoons are safe for visitors. Sign off the facilities check sheet.
· Prepare moorings for visitors due in including loading with electricity and monitor arrival and leaving times in the height of the busy season.
· Carry out weekly Health & Safety rounds of all the pontoons ensuring the safety equipment is readily available to be used in an emergency.
· Offer prospective berth holders a positive tour of the marina. Ensure the Marina Manager is aware of all prospective berth-holders.
· Actively promote all services currently available, eg. moorings, hard standing, lifting, fuel, pump out, electricity, security, Wi-Fi, events, general facilities to prospective and existing berth holders and visitors.
· Build good relationships with boat owners / tenants and offer general assistance.
· Dispense and take payment for fuel.
· Take payment for all services and issue and monitor contractors passes.
· Move boats around the marina when requested.
· Assist visiting boats into the marina and manage the visitors berthing during the height of the season, working closely with the administration team.
· Assist in the annual pontoon pressure washing programme.
· Complete the Marina Operatives course.
· Complete Job appropriate training as and when required.
· Deliver the post to the tenants daily.
· Attend the berth holder events throughout the year in line with staff requirements. All staff are expected to attend the annual berth holder party which is usually the first Saturday in September. Holiday will not be granted for this event unless for exceptional circumstances.
Answer the office phones and respond to enquiries by phone, email and in person, as and when required and in line with the Company Policy and Procedures.
Assist with ground works when required.
Assist with boats sales – viewings demonstrations & movements.
Assist with craning operations when required.
