Reporting to: Racing Facilities & Resources Manager

Purpose

To ensure that the RYA fleet of boats, vehicles, store and related equipment are maintained to a standard required to deliver a world-class service.

Dimensions

Supports the Racing Facilities & Resources Manager with the maintenance of the RYA fleet of 38 support boats, 19 vans and Sailboat racing Event equipment based at the RYA Boat Store and on occasions, work remotely away from the base.

Context

The Marine Technician reports to the Racing Facilities & Resources Manager and works alongside the Senior Marine Technician carrying out maintenance on the RYA owned fleet of support boats, vans, and trailers used to support the British Sailing Team, British Youth Sailing programs and RYA World Class events in the UK and internationally.

Accountabilities

• Responsible for the maintenance of the RIB fleet and related equipment to ensure that it is in World class condition requiring specialist technical and knowledge.

• Responsible for the decommissioning process of ribs and trailers that are end of life to the BST with skilled mechanical, fiberglass hull and tube repairs.

• Work alongside the Senior Marine Technician to monitor the stock levels of serviceable items used for maintenance.

• Leads and conducts regular equipment and safety checks on vehicles to ensure that they are ready to use when required and report defects to the Racing Equipment Manager

• Conduct skilled maintenance in the workshop.

• Consult with Sport Department, WCP & Racing Department colleagues to ensure that equipment is available at the times and venues specified in the schedule as required.

• Responsible for the in-house van maintenance requiring deep technical knowledge in this area and working autonomously.

• Available for maintenance work in the UK / abroad to support rib fleet and van operations

• Responsible for the operation of the workshop in the absence of the Senior Marine Technician and the Racing Facilities and resources manager.

• Conducts regular maintenance of the RYA Boatstore facilities

Person Specification

Knowledge

IT literate (MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook)

Knowledge of powerboating / sailing (experience) and an understanding of how marine equipment is used and maintained to an exceptionally high standard

Highly detailed Knowledge of Rib, outboard motor and Trailer maintenance

The use of GRPs in yacht hull repair

Highly detailed knowledge of vehicle maintenance

Skills

Strong diligence and a structured approach to routine preventative maintenance and record keeping.

Good people skills.

Skilled at general metal work and welding

Skilled and rib trailer and outboard maintenance

Experience of maintenance / servicing of boats and or vehicles Powerboat driving experience and qualifications, minimum PBL2.

Full Driving License

Power Boat Level 2

NVQ L3 – Mechanical Engineer (Desirable)

Yamaha L1 or L2 Technician (Desirable)
