The decision was made during an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), on Friday 7 November, 2025, where over 50% of BHBF members voted in favour of the merger. This outcome reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the voice of hire boat operators and ensuring that the unique needs of the Broads remain a priority within the wider inland waterways community.
As part of the merger, the Broads will now operate as asubgroup within the Inland Association, ensuring that local issues, regulatory updates, and operational challenges continue to receive focused attention. The Inland Association has confirmed plans to maintain regular meetings with the Broads Authority, enabling timely communication and the relay of critical information back to members. Additionally, representation at key meetings and drop-in sessions will remain a cornerstone of this new structure.
We are delighted to welcome the Broads Hire Boat Federation members into the Inland Association. This merger strengthens our collective voice and ensures that the Broads remain a vital part of our strategy. By working together, we can share knowledge, tackle challenges more effectively, and create opportunities that benefit the entire inland boating members.
Ed Helps Chair at British Marine Inland AssociationI’m pleased to share that the Broads Hire Boat Federation has voted in favour of dissolving and integrating into the British Marine Inland Association as a dedicated Broads subgroup. By joining a wider Inland membership, the Broads will benefit from a stronger collective voice both locally and nationally. This move also enhances British Marine Inland’s representation by adding another significant waterway, further strengthening our position when engaging with Government and Waterway Authorities. I’m looking forward to participating in upcoming networking events and gaining insights from fellow operators as we navigate the challenges ahead and uncover new opportunities.
Greg Munford CEO at Richardsons Leisure LtdMembers can expect continued engagement through committee representation, open forums, and networking opportunities.
