Marine Mechanical Engineer
Location Largs Yacht Haven, Irvine Road

Closing Date 31 March 2024

Pay range: Between £25’000- £45’000 per annum dependent on experience

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8.00am- 5pm

Overtime: x 1.5 of hourly pay rate.

Benefits: 28 days holiday, 10 of these days are to be kept for two week closure over the Christmas period, power tools & work wear, plus more. Overtime available over the busy season. Workplace pension scheme in place.

A busy Scottish based Leisure Marine Engineering Company has an immediate requirement for a Marine Mechanical Engineer.

As a Mechanic/Marine Engineer, you will undertake servicing , installation, modification, repair/maintenance and diagnostics of mechanical equipment/systems, i.e. engine propulsion . Generators. Drive chain systems , reverse gears , stern drives , IPS pods etc. You will ensure that tasks are completed in a structured and professional manner.

Previous experience of  leisure marine installations  and repairs is a prerequisite together with servicing and maintenance of marine engines, hydraulics, propulsion and all other systems is essential. Previous experience and training with Volvo Penta , Cummins, Cat and MAN diesel engines together with some outboard experience, primarily Suzuki and Mercury would be a major advantage.

A good knowledge or interest in power or sailing boats or boating experience would be very good   

Typical tasks include:

  • Marine diesel inboard installations.
  • Outboard installations.
  • Fault finding.
  • Installing and connecting generators/batteries.
  • Engine room fit outs.
  • Various engine services from single cylinder diesels to 13L diesels petrol outboards 2.5- 400hp.
  • Efficient diagnostics and fault rectification.
  • Annual training courses to keep up to date with new products and new technology.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with Marine leisure craft from around 15’-65’.
  • Able to work with all diesel engines including outboards.
  • Seeking candidate that will strive for excellence at all times.
  • Keen to work in a fast paced environment.
  • An ability to work on your own or as part of our team with an understanding of working to deadlines is essential.
  • Trained / times served / Volvo Penta engineer. Must have min 3 years on the tools experience.
  • Candidates will have excellent hands on skills in servicing, repair, maintenance, fault finding and electronic diagnostics with Vodia and or similar diagnostic tools.
  • Boating / sailing experience would be a major advantage. 
  • Full UK drivers licence
