British Marine Inland Conference 2025: A sold-out event driving knowledge, collaboration and sector advancement
17 November 2025

The British Marine Inland Conference 2025 delivered a full day of strategic insight, authoritative sector updates and high-value networking as more than 120 delegates convened on 13 November at the Black Country Living Museum.

The sold-out event brought together operators, navigation authorities, policymakers and industry partners for a focused, content-rich programme designed to address the key opportunities and challenges facing the inland marine sector.

Positioned as a forum for forward-thinking discussion, the conference provided a vital space for attendees to stay ahead of regulatory changes, explore emerging technologies and exchange best practice. Delegates also benefited from dedicated networking throughout the day, reinforcing the event’s role as a platform for collaboration and sector alignment.

This year’s speaker line-up featured senior representatives from the Environment Agency, Canal & River Trust, Broads Authority, Visit Thames and specialist fire investigators, each offering clear, actionable insight into market trends, legislative developments and operational considerations. Their contributions ensured delegates received up-to-date guidance from the organisations directly shaping the inland waterways landscape.

Complementing the main sessions, three targeted breakout discussions—covering training, technical developments and public affairs—allowed participants to explore detailed subject areas relevant to workforce development, innovation pipelines and policy engagement. Across all sessions, attendance and participation were strong, reflecting the industry’s appetite for specialist knowledge and meaningful discussion.

Feedback from delegates underscored the event’s value, praising both the quality of the content and the opportunities for productive networking, with many highlighting the conference’s role in supporting strategic decision-making and cross-sector engagement.

  • Georgina Wickham and Debbie Skinner (White Mills Marina): “Well organised, great event—packed with useful content and excellent networking opportunities.”
  • Phil James (EP Barrus): “Congratulations on another great event. The sessions were informative and the energy in the room was fantastic.”
  • Greg Munford (Richardsons Leisure): “Thanks for running a fantastic day—really insightful and great to have a spotlight on the Norfolk Broads with John Packman (CEO, Broads Authority) speaking.”
  • Robert Parton (Aqueduct Marina and President of British Marine): “Another successful event, and it’s fantastic to see the Inland Association event growing year on year. The industry needs this platform.”
  • Emma and Justin Greene (ABNB): “A very well-organised event, and we loved the live music in the evening. It was the perfect way to end the day.”

Industry leaders also noted the continued growth of the event and its importance as a unifying platform for the inland sector.

The conference also marked the launch of the Sector Association Awards, recognising organisations demonstrating excellence in business performance, sustainability and product or service delivery. ABNB was awarded Business of the Year, Cafwin Cruises received the Sustainability Award, and Grand Union Narrowboats was recognised for Product or Service of the Year. These awards highlight the breadth of innovation and operational strength across the sector.

The conference also announced the Lock Keeper of the Year Award, with Adrian Honeybill, a dedicated Braunston volunteer, receiving the accolade following a nomination from Union Canal Carriers. His consistent support for boaters, businesses and CRT operations since 2019 has made a significant contribution to the local network. Runners-up included Lee Grice of Garfton Lock and the lock keepers overseeing the Tardebigge Flight, longest flight in UK (30 locks over a two-and-a-quarter mile stretch), recognised for their professionalism and commitment.

Congratulations to all our award winners.

The event closed with an informal evening gathering, giving delegates further opportunity to strengthen business relationships in a relaxed setting.

British Marine extends its thanks to all speakers, partners and delegates for contributing to the success of this year’s Inland Conference, and acknowledges the support of sponsors Haven Knox-Johnston, Hoseasons and EP Barrus.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2026 conference.
