Electronics Installer

An informative one-day course that provides all the skills and knowledge electronic installers need for installation and maintenance of electronics on boats, leading to an industry recognised qualification. Aimed at individuals with at least one year’s experience in electronics.

The Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) certificate is an indication of a working knowledge of NMEA’s Installation Standard, which clarifies and defines competent installation practices. A Marine Electronics Installer has demonstrated this proficiency by passing an examination designed to measure understanding of those principles.

      Owen has been working alongside Richard Broden-
     Cowell at Bournemouth and Poole College within the  
     Marine department and was invited to join to expand  
     the delivery team.

     He has a wealth of experience in the marine industry starting as a cadet he spent 5 years at sea before coming shoreside to work in various engineering roles before taking up his role as a lecturer at Bournemouth and Poole College.

He holds a foundation degree in Marine Engineering, teaching qualification, assessors qualification as well as being an approved trainer by British Marine and NMEA .

He has worked for companies such as Condor Ferries, Marine Scotland and OYS.

     Richard Broden-Cowell has a lifetime of experience  
     within the marine electrical industry, much of it as
     Managing Director of Sure Power Marine, or working
     with companies such as Sunseeker International Ltd,
     Discovery Yachts, Le-Purple Marine and Hamble
     Yacht Services, to name but a few.

     He also has many years experience teaching the
                                                              skills of boat electrics, as a college lecturer.

Richard is an approved and certificated lecturer for British Marine, to deliver the BMET, MEI and AMEI courses.  Some of these courses are delivered from his own classroom at The Marine Technology Centre on Bournemouth and Poole College campus.

Adam James Adam James, Technical Executive (British Marine)
Adam joined British Marine in 2024 following on from a career almost exclusively in the Marine Industry.

For three years he was the Coxswain of the most northerly lifeboat in the UK before moving to lead the United Kingdom’s only full time, all weather lifeboat station based at Spurn Point in the River Humber.

Adam originally studied Naval Architecture for small craft and then went on to forge a career as a professional sailor. He has worked building racing yachts and motor boats for companies on the South Coast including the Paralympic Sonar Class.

Adams role in the technical team can vary from giving support and guidance to members to sitting on technical committees. His background in small craft design and construction gives him a direct insight into our member’s needs.
