Who we are seeking

We are seeking an experienced Operational Excellence (OPEX) Engineer to support the continuous improvement of our manufacturing operations. This role will play a key part in analysing, improving, and sustaining production processes to ensure efficient, high‑quality yacht build, with a strong focus on process optimisation, waste reduction and cost‑down initiatives.

You will work closely with production, engineering, quality, and design teams to embed Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, support new product introduction (NPI/NPD), and drive long‑term operational excellence across the business.

A Day in Life

In this role, you will be actively involved on the shopfloor and across cross‑functional teams, reviewing manufacturing processes, analysing data, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing sustainable improvements. You will support ongoing OPEX initiatives, facilitate continuous improvement activities, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure robust, efficient, and compliant production processes.

You will be instrumental in influencing best practice, supporting cost reduction opportunities, and ensuring changes are effectively controlled, tracked, and embedded into the business.

Example responsibilities include:

·       Developing and implementing Lean manufacturing and OPEX strategies to improve productivity, quality, and cost efficiency

·       Analysing workflows, material flow, tooling, and production processes to eliminate waste and bottlenecks

·       Supporting and influencing NPD programmes to ensure efficient build and production processes

·       Leading and facilitating Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives, including training where required

·       Conducting root cause analysis, managing 8D problem‑solving, and implementing corrective actions

·       Ensuring manufacturing processes comply with quality standards, safety regulations, and industry requirements

·       Supporting audits and sustaining continuous improvement and quality performance

·       Recommending and implementing tooling, equipment, automation, and process improvements

·       Carrying out cost‑benefit analysis for process improvements and capital investments

·       Working closely with design, engineering, quality, and production teams to integrate changes effectively

·       Documenting and standardising processes to improve consistency, knowledge sharing, and efficiency

To be considered for this role you should have:

  • Considerable time served in a manufacturing or process engineering role (marine, automotive, aerospace, or similar industries preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and OPEX methodologies
  • Experience identifying and delivering process improvements in a production environment
  • Understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques, ideally including composites or marine construction
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO, ABS, or Lloyd’s Register
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams

Desirable:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher)
  • Hands‑on experience with fibre glass, carbon fibre, or aluminium manufacturing
